Javits Frimpong

Hi guys

I don't really talk about heavy topics on my blog to keep things light. But this broke me, and I had to speak up about this and other issues in the future.

A 15-year-old boy named Javits Frimpong was fatally shot while walking on his way to school on Thursday morning, October 29, 2026. He was shot in the stomach at 9:30 am near Crotona Park in the Bronx.

His father said it's been 1 year since he came from Ghana to live with him for a better life and education, while his mother stayed back home.

A video was shown of Javits running for his life and a masked, all-black person caught on camera fleeing. Authorities said the victim ran about a block after being shot before collapsing. He died in the hospital.

Investigators are searching for 3 teens who fled the area. His father believes he knows who was responsible. He said that he believes the shooting was tied to bullying. He said that just 3 days ago, the principal told him that 2 kids were bullying his son and got suspended for a week. It breaks my heart to watch the father break down, crying and saying that the last thing he said to Javits was to get to school on time.

On Saturday, October 31, 2026, Mayor Zohran Mamdani said President Donald Trump had agreed to grant a visa to Javits's mother to travel to New York to see her son. A charitable campaign has raised more than $860,000 to help the family.

After watching some TikTok videos about him, I saw comments saying the bullies made fun of where he came from, which is heartbreaking to hear. No child should ever feel ashamed of where they came from or who they are. Looking at his pictures, Javits generally looks like such a sweet boy. He had his whole life ahead of him, but it was cut short.

Monday morning, November 2, 2026, students from his school staged a walkout to honour Javits and speak out against bullying and gun violence. A lot of students said he was shy, kept to himself and made others laugh. Some of the students stated that they could relate to the racism and the colourism. All because he was different, they had to end his life.

People are calling for additional programs aimed at keeping young people engaged and away from violence.

So far, police have made no arrests but are still looking for the 3 teens in connection with the case. NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny said

"Right now, we're looking at the possibility that the child was being bullied at school. We're working with the Department of Education to verify that. But we're also looking at two other aspects. Could this child have been the victim of a robbery gone bad, or was this a case of mistaken identity where a rival gang member thought he was the opposition,"

Watching his story made me cry. My parents were immigrants from the Caribbean to Canada. Even though this happened in America, the message is still there. I worry about my little siblings. My little brother is just one year older than Javits in high school. I pray he finds good people who accept him for who he is as a young black boy, same as my little sisters who are starting high school next year. Black people shouldn't hide or feel ashamed of the colour of their skin.

I pray the family get justice for their son, and this is a serious wake-up call to protect black children from bullying. The teens who did this will pay for their crime.

Stop the violence and stay in school

                                                       SAY HIS NAME: JAVITS FRIMPONG

Rest in peace, Javits Frimpong; you will get your justice.

Kids being Kids

 Hi Guys!

Yesterday, on Halloween, I went with my little sister (she is 13 years old) to trick-or-treat with her friends. After we got candy, we went to her friend's house, where her mom kindly gave us pizza while we waited for my dad to pick us up. I was sitting at the table, listening and just watching how they all talked and interacted with each other. It made me happy to see how kids are still being kids. Now you see in society and on social media (TikTok) that kids/preteens are rushing to grow up. It breaks my heart to see all these young teens wanting to be adults already, buying skincare to not age (which is insane), makeup, grown-up clothes, etc. Kids and teens nowadays don't go through that awkward phase anymore, and it makes me really sad. I remember growing up, and in my early preteen years, I was awkward; I had braces, a bad sense of clothing with butterfly pants and bright-coloured shirts and terrible acne. I remember I always used to go to Justice and Claire's with my mom (I miss Justice sm). I feel nowadays kids/preteens don't have a space for them to be themselves. I see young girls in my mall in Sephora and not a lot of kids in Claire's.

But watching my sister and her friends in their cute costumes of their favourite character, loud and being themselves, braces, dorky, acne. Makes me happy that kids are still being kids and going through their awkward teenage phase. It's good some kids are still weird. I'm 19 and still consider myself "weird". I hope kids stay weird and grow up being kids, because you can only be a kid once in your lifetime. Sometimes I wish I was a kid again.
